Traveling Mates

Meet my new traveling friends that have joined my husband and myself on this extended trip.
From Left to Right they are Wim (Whistler Ivan Moose),
Tip (Toronto International Panda), and Babs (Blackcomb Angelina Bear).
They joined us in parts of Canada and decided to stay with me and help me out as my advisors on all things creative and fun. They claim that they are duel citizens now!
We have started on a hand embroidery project. We are doing squares for a baby quilt. As I had none of my supplies along we have to find a JoAnns and do a little shopping, but that done we got started 

We picked a size, taped the edges to keep it from unraveling and tried it in the hoop we got.

Then it was time to put a design on. Our first square will be a baby giraffe

Now we have got it hooped, hopefully I will get some time soon to actually start embroidering it.

While we were in New York City we also found some fun cloth at the fabric district. so much stuff it was hard to pick what to get. I contented myself with just a couple of pieces. The guys think I should make them some clothes. I am not sure it will happen until I get back home though as I don't have a sewing machine with me and not sure if I want to do them all by hand, but here are the picks from that day shopping



The bottom two are very fun silks.
I have been thinking up a lot of funky jewelry ideas. I amy have to make another stop at a hobby lobby or something, but first I must work on my giraffe. 
I am having fun bouncing ideas off these three guys, they are so accepting and don't mind a bit as I work through my ideas out loud. 
I will keep you all posted on my projects and put in a couple of photo's of my friends as we do things.

Trees for the Festival

As it is almost the end of January, I felt that I should get myself in gear and finish my 2017 Christmas posts. Here is the process I went though this year for the two large trees and one small tree that I decorated for the Festival of Trees First I measured the spaces needed down in my basement game /family area. This tree required a 7x9 foot area and the other required a 9 by 14 foot area. Next I put the trees bag where I wanted to put the tree up in each space. Then I got my ornaments gathered. Next was assembling the trees and checking to make sure the lights worked, as they are always new trees, so far I have not had a problem with lights. Then I put some of the ornaments on, the tree topper on, and the tree skirt around it to check how I am planning it to look. Next I stack the boxes I am going to wrap to had depth and high to the display Then I put out he other items I have that go with the tree theme. This one was a Hogwarts Christmas, of course.

Baked Sandwiches

Baked Meat and Cheese Sandwiches I started with two loaf of french bread as I wanted to make enough to freeze some for later and I have found that it only takes a few minutes more to do multiple batches so I can freeze some for a later date. I sliced the bread in half lengthwise Then in a mixing bowl I put one 8oz package of softened cream cheese  and 8 oz of softened butter I then cream it well until it is all mixed together and smooth Them comes the poppy seed I add 2 T of poppy seed And them cream it again until the poppy seeds are evenly mixed in the butter/cream cheese mixture I divide the mixture in 4 and spread it on the halves of french bread. Now you start to layer the meat and cheese. I started with ham lunch meat. you only layer on the bottom halves of the loafs then layered Colby Jack Cheese Then I placed sliced lunch meat turkey Then a layer of Swiss cheese Final

Lasagna

This is an easy to make ahead and in quantities dish. Lasagna First I assemble my toppings And noodles. I use the oven ready noodles as they are easier and less messy Then I chop up my vegetables And add them to the pan with my meat. In this set, I have onions, peppers, zucchini, and hamburger I then fry them together until hamburger is well cooked and mixed with the cooked vegetables Next I start by putting a thin layer of sauce on the bottom top the sauce of my baking dish.    Then put a noodle on that sauce and spreading another generous bit of sauce on top of the noodle. Step 1 Next I spread cottage cheese on top of the sauce and mix it together, spreading it as evenly as I can over the noodle. Step 2 Now I sprinkle a scoop of my cooked meat and vegetable mixture on top. Step 3 Then comes the cheese. I usually use a mixture shredded Italian blend and Colby Jack Step 4 then you cover with another noodle
