Hawaiian Lei's

I am sharing my experience on making a flower Lei
This took place in Hawaii last year. We used orchids and plumeria flowers and Ti leafs.
This took place in one of the courtyards at the shopping area near us.

We started with a basket of flowers, a Ti leaf, a very thin long needle, and "thread".
I asked what the thread was and she told me we were using dental floss. She went through making one to show us how, before we started.

We tied a knot a few inches into the thread then pushed the needle through a strip of Ti leaf we folded small.

Then we gently ran the needle through the center of the orchids

Also we added the smaller flowers by going sideways through the thickest pa
rt of the flowers base.

We made to be gentle as we did them and make sure we were gently pushing them together

We used the flowers in the basket, alternating them into whatever pattern we each wanted.
We keep this up as our set of flowers grew longer.

Once the flower reached our desired  length (we found this by holding each end string in our hands and putting it up to ourselves like we were putting on a necklace) then we took them up to her and she showed us how to tie them off.

once they were tied off, she then trimmed the threads.

Finally, she sprayed them with water.

Her is the finished one when I got it back to our condo. If kept in the refrigerator when you are not wearing it, they can last several day even a week or more.

And here was mine on me!
