Feather Flowers

Image
Feather flowers I first made these last year in Hawaii while we were staying in Hana. First you need to get your supplies together This picture is how they did it in Hana Here is how I did it today at home. (All my supplies for this project can off amazon as I am not going out for much but food since the shelter at home order can in a couple of weeks ago.) Fist thing is to get a few stamens out Bunch them together as shown below Use a 6 inch piece of thin wire and wrap it around the center of the stamens  Next you take a piece of florist tape about 5 or 6 inches long   Wrap the stamens and wire  with florist tape like in the next image. Now we get to the feathers. I sorted out the colors I wanted and started with the smallest yellow feathers (how you design the colors is very much up to you) After put one or two feathers around the stamen set, you take about 6 inches of florist tape, while hol...

Baked Sandwiches

Image
Baked Meat and Cheese Sandwiches I started with two loaf of french bread as I wanted to make enough to freeze some for later and I have found that it only takes a few minutes more to do multiple batches so I can freeze some for a later date. I sliced the bread in half lengthwise Then in a mixing bowl I put one 8oz package of softened cream cheese  and 8 oz of softened butter I then cream it well until it is all mixed together and smooth Them comes the poppy seed I add 2 T of poppy seed And them cream it again until the poppy seeds are evenly mixed in the butter/cream cheese mixture I divide the mixture in 4 and spread it on the halves of french bread. Now you start to layer the meat and cheese. I started with ham lunch meat. you only layer on the bottom halves of the loafs then layered Colby Jack Cheese Then I placed sliced lunch meat turkey Then a layer of Swiss cheese Fi...

Hawaiian Lei's

Image
I am sharing my experience on making a flower Lei This took place in Hawaii last year. We used orchids and plumeria flowers and Ti leafs. This took place in one of the courtyards at the shopping area near us. We started with a basket of flowers, a Ti leaf, a very thin long needle, and "thread". I asked what the thread was and she told me we were using dental floss. She went through making one to show us how, before we started. We tied a knot a few inches into the thread then pushed the needle through a strip of Ti leaf we folded small.  Then we gently ran the needle through the center of the orchids Also we added the smaller flowers by going sideways through the thickest pa rt of the flowers base. We made to be gentle as we did them and make sure we were gently pushing them together We used the flowers in the basket, alternating them into whatever pattern we each wanted. We keep this up as our set of flo...
