Layered Chicken
So today's blog is a cooking one.
My family called it chicken cordon blue, but it is just a layered chicken dish
First let's assemble our ingredients, you will need;
10 pieces of Canadian bacon
one box stove top stuffing
3 chicken breast
10 slices of provolone cheese
mushrooms, if desired
3 to 4 cups heavy whipping cream
3/4 c sour cream
1/3 c milk
2 tsp nutmeg
paprika
pam
seasoning
Now arrange your baking pans. I am using a square 8x8 and three other glass pans that I will cover and freeze for another day. Be sure to use oven safe pans.
I cut my large chicken breast into 4 pieces about 3 to 4 inches and 1bout 1/2 thick.
I used a smaller pan, but any size frying pan will do. Spray it with Pam. Season the chicken (I like the garlic sat, but regular sat and pepper works great)
Then I start to cook them in the frying pan over a med. low heat until just cooked through.
While the chicken is cooking, start the layering by placing the Canadian bacon in the baking dish that has been light sprayed with pam or something similar
Next places about 1/4 to 1/3 cup of prepared stuffing on bacon
Next you take your cooked chicken breast and layer it on the stuffing
Then you place the provolone cheese on top of your chicken breast. In the next picture you will see that I put mushrooms on top of the cheese, These are totally a person preference and with or without them the recipes is fine.
now we need to make the sauce. In the same pan that you have cooked the chicken breast, pour 1/3 cup of milk and stir until blended
Next thing to add to the mixture is 3/4 cup of sour cream
Again stir the mixture until well blended
Now we add 3 to 4 cups of heavy whipping cream
Next add about 2 tsp of nutmeg
mix it in well and heat mixture until it is just starting to bubble.
turn off burner and ladle sauce over prepared stacks
Continue this until you have place all the sauce over all of the chicken. Sprinkle a little bit of paprika cover stacks
Cover with aluminum foil (or lids if you are freezing some of them)
This recipe makes 10 servings
To bake thawed meal set oven to 350
cook in oven safe pan for 30 minutes
If you are cooking one you previously had frozen.
Remove any non oven safe pieces, such as plastic lids or coverings. Cover with aluminum foil.
If still frozen cooks at 350 degrees for 1 hour and check to make sure it has gotten heated all the way through.
If you thawed if in the refrigerator before hand and it is now completely thawed, cook at 350 degree for about 30 minutes.
hope you enjoy this as much a we do.
